okay- we are ready to proclaim our excitement for the outcome of the presidential election. we were thrilled by the results, but we are also aware that many who are close to us were not so pleased. believe us we know how you feel. we felt that way in 2000 and again in 2004. so we offer you some advice- if you want it. remember that whoever the country chooses to be president they will be your president too. they work for all of us. so hold them accountable. never stop working for the things you believe in. the world will go on.
we had just put the kids to bed when they announced obama as the winner. we quickly went and had them come back downstairs and they were very excited. the above picture is ana's response to obamas victory. she began jumping around waiving her little flag. it was cute!
despite some people's disappointment i think it is important to recognize how far our country has come. i am proud that my children live in a country where a man of a different color can be elected president. when i watch those who struggled to win civil rights for those who were being persecuted cry and sob at the outcome i knew it was a good day for our country. how many groups in our country's history have been knocked down and persecuted for things that shouldn't matter and come back to be great? when as a human family will we learn that WE ARE ALL CREATED EQUAL? i think some people forget that our forefathers aspired to that. i hope it happens soon! i feel like every time we as a nation decide to stop beating up on the little guy we find a new little guy. i happen to belong or have belonged to several groups that were at one point the "little guy". mormons were driven away from their settlements for no other reason than their religion- in america. it's despicable! women of course were not allowed to vote, own property and were basically known as second class citizens for hundreds of years in our country. still to some extent. blacks were treated horribly by their fellow countrymen for no reason other that the color of their skin. all of this in america! and now we choose to pick on the gay community. when will we ever be strong enough to let people live their lives and be who they are and accept them anyway. hopefully while my children are alive. if we have taught them anything we it hope it is that they are better people than that. we hope they will grow up to treat everyone equally and with the dignity and respect that we all deserve.
