i have something to say...

please allow me a minute to get up on my soapbox. now this soapbox i will be standing on today is pretty big for a couple of reasons. 1- i am short so i need a rather large box. 2- i want to be seen and heard by EVERYONE! you can disagree with me when i am done but you all need to listen.

this message is to all the pro-life people around our country who are passionate about their beliefs, for good reason. there are some of you who i think have not considered a few things...

there are at present approximately 120,000 children in our country, not russia, not china, not guatemala, here in the united states of america sitting in a foster home or group home RIGHT NOW waiting for someone, anyone to take them and make them a part of a family. i know everyone has a different idea of what family means, but i think we can all agree that at the very least a family consists of people who love you, who will always be there for you, who take care of you and who would do anything for you. EVERY CHILD IN THE WORLD DESERVES THAT! now that said- who are we as a collective people to tell anyone who is not a criminal and who would otherwise do no harm to a child that they cannot adopt one of these waiting children for one reason...they are gay.
this is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard! I am MAD! Really MAD! if you feel so strongly that every child should be born into this world then i believe that you should back that up. how are these unborn children any more important than the children who are already here, living and breathing and being punished for the poor decisions of their parents or for no reason other than a bad lot in life. these children deserve anyone who will love and care for them. if you feel so strongly that a gay man or woman cannot be a good parent to these children then i suggest you browse the links on my blog and get to work. there is all the information you will need to get started on your quest to give a family to a child who needs one.
we have many loved ones in our lives who happen to be gay and they would all, every single one of them, make wonderful parents. better parents than a lot of heteros i see.
now please realize i mean no offense to anyone who espouses a pro-life view. all i am asking is that you reconsider what having that view means to you and what it means to be pro- life. by saying you are pro-life consider whose life you are intending to protect. please feel free to pass this on to anyone you may know who felt the need to vote this week to keep hurt and traumatized innocent children out of loving homes. if we can't look out for the needs of the children in our country we have no business telling others they can't help them either. it is simply selfish.

Amen Jill...the general public is chock-full of ludicrous misconceptions, and one of them, unfortunately, is that homosexuals are all "pedophiles."

Despite the hopefulness of this election victory, it is definitely a frustrating time for gay rights...
