this is the story of harry hawley. he is a lizard. more to the point he is ricky's lizard and he has a remarkable story. lets start at the beginning...
while in florida a few summers ago ricky had a dream, a dream that one day while there he would be successful in finding and catching a lizard and take it home back to colorado and keep it as a pet. this dream was never realized as the lizards in florida were much faster than ricky had anticipated. so we came and left florida without having caught a lizard.
fast forward to this week. his wonderful mother was substituting at the local middle school where much of the faculty is forced to work second jobs because their jobs as teachers are so insignificant that they do not get paid enough. substitutes do not get paid very well either but that's another story. so the special ed teacher who works at lowes at night comes in to school with a lizard. apparently a delivery truck from florida dropped off some plants to sell at lowes the night before and as they were unloading these plants fresh from florida they found a stowaway. hiding in the dark soil was a lizard, tired from his long trip in a truck full of foliage all the way from florida. the teacher couldn't let him die in the frigid cold of colorado so she took him home with her and brought him into school the next day so the kids could see him. after showing him to the kids she asked if anyone wanted him to which ricky's mom replied "I do!" so home the lizard came to live with the hawley family. the science teacher gave ricky's mom a cage for the lizard and his mom stopped at petsmart on the way home and bought a dozen cannibal crickets -also another story. so ricky's mom gave him the lizard from florida for his birthday the next day. he was so excited! he named him harry and he will be very loved by a little boy.
