sock hop

the kids school was having a sock hop. upon learning of the sock hop i believe my first thought was "i hope the kids don't want to go." not to be a spoilsport but it just didn't seem like it would be that cool. of course the sock hop gods had different plans for my family and me. the kids wanted to go. all their friends were going. they were intent on going. so i had to come up with costumes. i guess i didn't have to but it seemed like other moms i talked to were making their daughters poodle skirts and everything. i am not that kind of mom. if we didn't have what we needed here we would have to make something work. we had stuff i thought would work for the girls and for ricky we went back and looked at old pictures of our friends dirt and jay to come up with the right look. well we went and the kids had an amazing time. it was great of fun.

the kids are ready to go. i told them i wanted to take a picture of them before we left and this is exactly how the posed without any prompting from me. it was too funny.

vera would not let me take a picture of her dancing. is this starting already?

here was the funny/sad part of the night, depending on who you are. ana has decided she is going to marry a little boy named steven. steven is very sweet. ana has "loved" him since preschool last year. steven appreciates ana's attention as well. he appreciates every girls attention because apparently all the girls like him. yes this is kindergarten.
so all night ana danced with steven. it was very sweet. however, when ana tried to dance with her daddy a very sad thing happened, several times. steven would come over and pull ana away from joe to dance with him. needless to say joe was heartbroken. i believe his exact words were " i haven't had my heart broken by a girl like that in over 15 years." he was sad.

sorry it's blurry- they were dancing fast

as the night drew to a close and we hurried tired children to the car, i realized that going to the sock hop was something i was glad we did. the only thing missing was a stop by the soda shop on the way home for a milkshake.
