my growing girl...

i feel like vera has grown up tremendously in the last few months. she has always been very mature for her age and very wise, but lately she is beginning to do so many grown up things.

she found a recipe in a book for homemade granola bars. every sunday night she makes a batch so she and ricky can take them as a snack to school that week.

she learned how to knit around thanksgiving and then spent the next month knitting scarves for the dolls we gave to her sister and cousins for christmas.

now she's sewing. my dad helped her figure out how to thread the machine, seeing as i am worthless in that department, and now she's making him a pillow with it.

as i write this i am thinking about how selfless vera is. she wants so badly to make sure that everyone around her is happy and has all they need, always with little concern for herself. for all that she has been through vera has such an amazing little spirit in her. her determination and thoughtfulness constantly show themselves. sometimes i wish i could just bottle her heart and take a little when i need some.
we feel so fortunate to have vera as our daughter. i often wonder how we got so lucky.

She sounds so sweet!! That really is very kind that she spends all that time doing things for different people in her family.
The granola bars do sound good! I would love if you guys can post the recipe for them if they taste pretty good.
